I was standing by myself now pretty bored In the midst of a rambling hoard Then I watched as you walked in I spilled my drink and dribbled my gin Then the band began to play Some disco crap from another day But to me I didn’t care I slid up to you and gave my come to me stare Would you come take his hand Even though you know I don’t like this band So he took her to the middle of the floor Hey did I mention that I was poor Chorus Come on little baby and dance with me We will swing till we’re a hundred and three Don’t you worry about your off the shoulder dress Our bodies are loose and they will do the rest I thought I was some kinda special thing I noticed that she wasn’t wearing an diamond ring Then she asked me “Hey what’s your name” I said nothing special it’s pretty plain Her parents in the corner they didn’t care They were busy watching the sexual pair Right then I decided my move couldn’t wait I said patent pending in fifty states He decided to make his move The girls back home thought it was pretty cool But before he could begin She made a move, a sin in Catholic school Chorus The band pulled out a slow tune I pulled her in close and together we swooned I felt her thigh against her hip She said “let me guess your name is Dick” At that moment the world was right Her perfume, her breathing, my line of sight And as the band played Boys to Men On my should she rested her head Chorus

Stockton Ave 03:02
Conversation Anticipation Truth in what they say Truth in what they say Rumors of the day It’s ok now I’m feeling kind of healed up Introductions Our dysfunctions We’d talked the day away Talk the day away All thru out the day But I know now I guess I wasn’t money Chorus: How’s she doing tonight How’s she doing Dancing with some Polish Boy on Stockton Ave Tell her when you see her Tell her when you see her Tell her now I’m just moving on Admiration Her Strength and salvation Made me think that I was saved That he was saved That both of us were saved We laughed hard And touched fingers in the moonlight Blind assumption Led to false deductions I assumed she’d always stay She would always stay Move on in and stay I was wrong now So people want to tell me Chorus Conversation Anticipation Truth in what they say Truth in what they say Rumors of the day It’s ok now I’m feeling kind of healed up Chorus

Smoke the last cigarette Savor the drink Nothing at home for you Just dishes in the sink Get up for work again Muddle on through Deny all the facts you face This life can’t be true Chorus: Remember when you found out all your heroes had lied They told you love hurt less after it died They didn’t understand that hearts easily break Especially yours, as if destined by fate You find your self wandering Day dreaming in the car You think about mistakes you made And the music stings your old scars You don’t talk to friends much Cuz it cause more harm Imagine their house on the hill True love in their arms Remember when you found out all your heroes had lied They told you love hurt less after it died They didn’t understand that hearts easily break Especially yours, as if destined by fate You remember the dreamers that you use to be The plans that you made at a quarter past three You stayed up till dawn to watch the sun come around And the girl in your arms as you slept on the ground Remember when you found out all your heroes had lied They told you love hurt less after it died They didn’t understand that hearts easily break Especially yours, as if destined by fate You remember the dreamers that you use to be The plans that you made at a quarter past three You stayed up till dawn to watch the sun come around And the girl in your arms as you slept on the ground But now you sit out on the porch alone You see her face in the kids who are grown One calls to check if you are your ok And says they’ll come by one of these days In the dead of the night you wake up to scream You sit up in sweat from another bad dream You can see her ghost sleeping, next to you, in the night In a house that empty, your to tired to fight

Turn Around 06:12
There are days your minding you own business Then the Gods decide to mess up everything You find yourself at crowded feat The last place you’d expect anything Then a sudden feeling comes upon ya Something felt a long time ago Then you get a wiff of some perfume And then the past comes thundering thru You slowly pick up head Hope you are imagining things But then you see the back of her There’s no mistaking who’s wearing those jeans Your tongue goes dry and your spine turns cold You have got to me kidding me I wanted the worst to happen I wanted her to turn around and look at me Chorus Turn around say you’ll look at me Turn around say you’ll stare at me Turn around say you’ll smile at me Turn around say you remember me All the years that have gonna bye If she made a left instead of a right Then I would be a different man Better now than what I am Instead of always dreaming yeah Instead of always wishing of you in my life I watch as she fumble through her purse I wonder if there is a place to hide But suddenly she looks on up Staring at me in surprise She takes a step towards me I reciprocate and take one too Man this is going to hurt like hell How much damage is this gonna do Chorus What am I to do You know I’ve been keeping myself clean and getting her out of my mind You say I invited this D But if it’s on me please don’t make it go away Now it’s time for us to say good bye I said I was late for some kind of thing But me I try and drag it It broke my heart to see you wear that wedding ring Then the worst thing that could happen The kind of thing that will hurt for many years She kissed me on the cheek and said I really miss you she left wiping away a tear Now everything is just stone quite I know tonight they’ll be a price to pay But as she turned the corner All I wanted to do was scream and say Chorus

Touch and Go 04:22
Standing somewhere all alone Daydreaming hard before I go home Try to find a little heaven in hell By playin’ a game that I call touch and go Thought I’d make it big with this guitar But the songs I wrote they didn’t go far Cuz I’m lazy is as lazy does Putting of the work to play my touch and go CHORUS Touch and go Touch and go A game I played so I didn’t hurt no more Never lived the life I could got Running out the clock now playing touch and go Was in love a couple times Too afraid to pull the trigger when their love was to mine Hurt them before they could hurt me Cuz I was blind playing a game called touch and go When it gets dark my guitar looks back Plays some chords from my past It forces me to look and see What I burned by playing touch and go Touch and go Touch and go A game I played so I didn’t hurt no more Never lived the life I could got Running out the clock playing touch and go Bridge I’ve used people since way back when Tried to be more important than I am Wonder how they’ll remember me The gentleman, the liar, the romantic sleez Is the most honest I ever wrote Can’t think play this game no more about They are ghost from my past And the reason I play touch and go. I hope you don’t think less of me I’m coming clean about playin’ touch and go Never lived the life I could a got Running out the clock playin’ touch and go

I’m groovin’ on the sidewalk in a place that use to be my town The place where my mom she would scream and yell and dragged me around All things come and some things go But it looks the same to me Take my hand and cross the street, dance on the side walk dance on the sidewalk with me I remember fireman Roy, hearing’ the siren and running from his store Down the street, to the firehouse he runs past Mister Dorn All things come and some things go But it looks the same to me Take my hand and cross the street, dance on the side walk dance on the sidewalk with me The hippies from the sixties in my town they all now spoon fed They’ve been replaced by cyber junk swimmin’ in the kids heads All things come and some things go But it looks the same to me Take my hand and cross the street, dance on the side walk dance on the sidewalk with me

Everything I glimpse and see Was everything that I could be But I hid it deep within myself The biggest lie I told to me Is we’re entitled to our dreams But the price is steep in and of it’s self I wanted to stop ya before you leave But my lungs were cold and I couldn’t scream Electroshock and therapy Nothing would bring you back to me I guess this was never meant to be Just liquor stores and tabs for me CHORUS Cuz I’m the simpleton galore Always wanting something more Me and God are keeping the score I remember when you broke with me I went and buried that diamond ring in a dresser drawer all by itself I remember months of urgent pleas To forget that past and forgive me But all my calls went on a shelf I buried myself then in a band Had a string of one night stands Trying to get back what I had lost But everything it has a cost I turned my life into a catacomb I was better off all alone Because I’m the Simpleton Galore Always wanting something more Me and God are keeping the score Bridge Of this I’m certain My sins they tore the curtain For the umpteenth I plead and pray But God just rolls his eyes and decides to get liquored up again If you told me how my life played out I’d raise an eyebrow in earnest doubt But then everything would make sense to me Now that we are at the end We’d all love to begin again And fix the faults that hurt ourself Gray hair and defining lines They all come from those better times Of when we bragged about ourself But no one listened no one helped And of all the big hypocrisies The one that really bothers me is that Cuz I’m the Simpleton Galore Always wanting something more Me and God are keeping the score Maybe someday our skin will touch again Cuz I'm the Simpleton Galore Always wanting something more Me and God, are keeping the score

You come up to me and ask me my name And I simply reply with a grin A friend of a friend told you this is where I hang If you want your new life to begin You break out some twenties but it’s never about the money It’s all about what you want to attain I’m the weaver of dreams and breaker of souls If you want to start over again Chorus I’ll tell you what I told the others before I ain’t afraid of your God Tell me what you want And I’ll show you what I got But it don’t come for free in the end I’ve made people kings, created fortunes and dreams I’ve brought back love from the dead I’ve plotted revenge and crippled good friends For the love of a girl that had been So tell me young man what is it that’s so bad That you come to seek out my kind When you’ve made some mistakes from beginning to end I am never that hard to find I’ll tell you what I told the others before I ain’t afraid of your God Tell me what you want And I’ll show you what I got But it don’t come for free in the end It’s time now to deal, a promise we will seal With a handshake, a little blood in the rain But before we begin he just backs away He ain’t ready to give up his pain I bid him ado, cause I knew were not through He’ll be back this way once again Cuz I’m the maker of kings, fortunes and dreams And I can bring back people from the dead So tell me what all your wishing for. Cuz I ain’t afraid of your God Tell me what you want And I’ll show you what I got But it don’t come for free in the end

The roommates got a sister He’s always wanted to kiss her But the boyfriend always takes her home It’s getting hard to resister her His tongue is full of blisters Because he says everything wrong CHORUS Lonely in the night Yeah Lonely be the night He rubs his battle scars Cuz there’s no love in his arms Lonely in the night Working 80 hours His growing family his a problem He’d rather drive then go on home She tries to get him to open But their distant and their broken Just like people warned her long ago Chorus Lonely in the night Yeah, lonely be the night She rubs her battle scars Cuz there’s no love in her arms Lonely in the night A girl in the Windy City She’s sitting awful pretty With a laptop on the edge of her bed She’s posing for another Who’s doing stuff beneath the covers She’s pretending she’s in love again Chorus Lonely in the night Yeah, lonely be the night We rub our battle scars Cuz there’s no love in our arms Lonely in the night Bullied awkward teens They simple wants to scream Their lonely in the night Crying pregnant mother Father’s with another lover She’s lonely in the night You want to cut your wrists wide open There’s a better world your hoping We’re lonely in the night But when you find true love You never let go of that hug So you never have to be lonely in the night

Remedy 03:10
Sad eyes Wakes on up Stares at her coffee And wonders where to go How to move on She just don’t know Last Night Hit real hard Unexpected When he decided to move on out Left you there With all your doubts, but he says Chorus: Call, me anytime, night or day, it’s all the same to me Yell now, if it helps you out that I am part of your remedy Sorry, is a worthless word when it is used up all the time So tell me, what is you remedy, what is your remedy A Year on You can’t move on Cuz you’re stuck where you are No social life, a shitty job, a busted car Then you Hear those words Yes those words The ones that make you burn He’s married now Has a kid And a pretty house But he still says Chorus Years on You have heard He left his wife with some money And the kid That his life has hit the skids But you Met your heart Who makes you who you are You are never a lone She ignores his message on that phone That says Chorus:
13.
You’re coming thru this world with something to prove It’s the love in you It’s the love in you But hard times came crashing thru It’s broken you Love has lied to you I know, I know You don’t think you can come thru this You tell me you’re feeling all alone People don’t get you What’s has happened to you Hold on, Hold on Cuz I have been thru this Don’t cry, Don’t cry I promise it's gets better than this You’re sitting in the dark all alone Thinking all things thru What’s missing you You spend your time on the could have beens His love didn’t answer you It wasn’t given back to you I know, I know Things don’t look good from this You think that the lord don’t feel your pain He’s deaf to you He’s abandoned you Hold on, Hold on Cuz I have been thru this Don’t cry, Don’t cry I promise it's gets better than this You put your heart in the wrong hands It was hurting you But it won’t finish you Take my hand and come with me I will see you thru That’s what my love can do I know, I know, I know, I know now Cuz my love was built for this You will love again I promise you I will see you thru It’s what I’m meant to do Hold on, Hold on, Hold on Hold on baby now You will love again I promise you I am here for you It’s what my love can do

He starts talking to me in a southern drawl He said a friend of a friend said I should give you a call They call me Big Tuna and I got this band And we need a guy Minutes turned to hours over a couple beers His infectious smile made me think I’d know him for years In the next couple weeks we stood on stage But what I didn’t know right then We became the heroes of our day As fast as I joined you made me one your own Practiced turned into hanging out at our homes You were laughing at some joke while Jen tried to sing It was the best of times Driving all night coming back from the gigs Tuna showed dirty pictures, told stories about his kids Pauly screamed shut it down as the tires skid We were invincible baby We were the Heroes of our day Bridge Man, I guess you had your secrets Things I didn’t know or see How could I have been so blind I watched as you moved the family I never told ya how much I missed ya Even when we’d visit time to time But like ever thing important The distance pushed you to the back of my mind Then I got the word that you moved on My body snapped, I ended up on the ground Staring at the corner where you sat and played It sits empty now I wish I could have saved you like you saved me The rest of us are empty, sometimes it’s hard to breath And all I can think about after all this time is that We were beautiful baby And the Heroes of our day Brother, we all miss you I know your with us on this stage So for one last time, lets go on out and be The Heroes of our day

about

I never planned on recording again. After my last endeavor “Fate and Stitches” life took over and my guitar sat in the corner gathering dust. Between work and raising a daughter writing went by the wayside. I would strum here and there but over the years the callouses on my finger tips faded and I lived on fond memories of band days past while folding loads of laundry
Then, after we entered the alternate universe when life came to a screaming halt, and like many of us, I got bored. I started staring more and more at that guitar sitting in the corner gathering dust. So in the summer of 2020 I picked it up and started strumming but I didn’t think I had anything to say. A year later I had a notebook full of songs, which I called The Covid Writing Sessions and from that came this new album Stockton Ave.
Hopefully I will use the rest of the songs in that notebook and record the follow up album down the road
I hope you enjoy it

The Players

Drummer Chris Starke has play with such bands as Burnt Toast, Cadillac Casanovas, Hudson McCoy and currently with Renegade Wildflower. We have know each other for over 30 years and continue to jaw over Chicago baseball. Chris has always been the calm in the eye of my musical storm and I am so happy I was able to do this with him

Bassist Tad Santos is a commodity all his own. He plays with Brad Cole, Jeff Libman and The Porterhouse Trio in the Chicago area. He is one of the best. A great friend for over 25 years and a very bad influence in any bar we are in.

I met Guitarist Paul Stebner when Haydn Rutz brought me into The Dirt Poets band. He IS my musical brother from another mother! His guitar cast a spell on me from the moment I first heard him play. Our musical taste were so different but blended so well together when on stage or in the studio. Our friendship transcends the ages! Plus our love for Jay Ferguson’s “Thunder Island” will always connect us no mater how many miles separate us. Love ya brother

Christa Cummins – Vocals- Christa joined me on Come Around and Remedy. This was her first time in the studio and she wowed us all with her talent.

Patrick Whalen – Trumpet, Flugelhorn and Melodica. Paul is a local talent who teaches and Cary Grove High School. He bought out the feel that I was looking for on Stockton Ave

Jennifer Jennings – Vocals. I am so glad Jen is able to join us on Heroes. She is a local singer songwriter in the Chicago area and has played with The Jennifer Jennings Band, Big Babies and Burst Toast

Justin LeBreck – Keyboards. Justin is the owner of Waysound Recordings in Fox River Grove and plays with the Modern Day Romeos

Tony John – Mandolin. A great musician who hails from Wisconsin and was able to join us on Simpleton Galore

I wish to thank a few people
Ryan Barrett – from what started as recording a few songs at is house, to introducing me and setting up recording time with Justin LeBrock at Waysound to this…Stockton Ave. Thank you for the encouragement and the support to finish this project.
You were right, It was time to let the Beast out of the cage

What can I say about Justin LeBreck. This album would not have been possible without him at the controls. He is the only person I have ever met who was able to pull the shit I heard in my head and get it recorded. I can honestly say we did not have a bad session. Even the mistakes worked in our favor – because of his talent. The hours we sat together with keyboard and guitar in hand helped me give each song their own personality.

I wish to thank Dani Jaroz, Bill Guertin and countless others who let me bounce ideas and tracks off them. Even the shitty ones
